We all know what we should be doing when we shop. That’s right, bring and use your own, reusable shopping bags. The horrendous damage all those plastic bags are doing to the environment and our oceans (recently a beluga whale washed up dead on a beach, its stomach was full of plastic shopping bags!) is shocking. It’s hard to get into the habit of doing this though. For me, no problem when I’m walking to the feed store (I buy my eggs and birdseed there) or the little market in my tiny town. But when I do larger shopping I always forget to bring them, plus I need to buy a few more bags for that to make sense. I need to make this happen, it’s important.
Eco-bags, members of the “Organic Trade Association” as well as the “Global Organic Textile Standard” and others, really know their business… reusable bags! “Our reason for creating ECOBAGS® is simple: We exist to provide products, information and inspiration that help people reduce, re-use and recycle. Starting with the simple step of bringing your own reusable cloth bag to shop may seem trivial, but it creates a “mindset.” Like anything, the more people who take this simple step, the more it becomes the natural and right thing to do.”
A few of my favorites from the many they offer…
One thing we don’t think of is a bag for produce, I like this Organic Net Drawstring Bag. It’s a good size and is certified organic.
Or these nice recycled cotton totes, with “Celebrate” embroidered on the front.
And of course this handsome French Woven Baskets Two Tone Tote is not only useful but looks sharp anywhere you take it.
Check out all the others bags they offer and remember, when you shop, don’t forget to take them with you!
